DESCRIPTION

Kalkulator V.1 (2022) is a water printer that places water droplets onto a heated bed. Due to water’s mineral content, faint residue marks where water was once present as it evaporates. It is an artistic tool created for research.

Based on the mechanical principles of a 3D printer, its precise characteristic is distinguishable from water’s unpredictable nature, provoking a narration between the controlled and uncontrollable.

The Kalkulator prints out the results from different water sources. Each body of water is special, containing minerals, microorganisms, and organic materials. The research aims to produce a series of prints representing each source uniquely.

Seeüberwachung is a research project dedicated to exploring the cultural implications of lakes and bodies of water as a nonmeasuring experiment. The group consists of five international, interdisciplinary, independent artists, including Hess and Sara.

Sara Koniarek is an Austrian multimedia artist. Her works focus on the duality and relationship of analogue and digital, as well as language cryptography and coding, aesthetically positioned between post-Internet and classic photo and videography. She completed her BA in Graphic Design and Photography and is currently studying at the Kunstuniversität Linz, MA Interface Cultures.

Hess Jeon is an object-oriented artist and designer from South Korea. With a focus on modern machines and their influence on current cultures and communities, he likes to dabble with speculative designs supported by artistic research and playful reasoning. Having studied Industrial Design(BDes) at NCAD Dublin, he is currently undertaking an Interface Culture(MA) programme in Kunstuni Linz.
